Brand Focus: Saucony12th August 2025 by B.Burrows Founded in 1898 on the banks of Saucony Creek, Pennsylvania, Saucony were initially known for specialising in children's footwear long before their association with athletic and performance focused ranges which didn't come along until the late 1950s with the release of the 7446. Made from kangaroo leather in a track shoe silhouette with six spikes to the outsole, marking the release of what most see as the world's first dedicated performance running shoe and meeting the demands of an athletics sphere newly focused on running. 1968 saw Saucony merge with Hyde Athletics, a brand which had grown to become one of the largest footwear manufacturers in the U.S due to its popular "Spot Bilt" model, giving Saucony the perfect platform to grow and eventually flourish within the athletic footwear space. In 1979, the nomination of two different Saucony models in the top ten shoes of the year by Runner's World magazine saw sales grow by more than 2000% over the 12 months that followed, allowing the brand to launch extensive research and development projects to innovate further within the sector. Jazz Original Trainer In 1998 the Hyde Athletics group formally renamed to Saucony in recognition of the continued growth and success of the label, which by this point in time accounted for over 85% of the group's total sales. The relaunch of a number of the most popular models from the 1980s under the "Saucony Originals" line saw the price of the brand's stock treble almost overnight after remaining mostly stable for the previous five years, and the brand went from strength to strength yet again as they sponsored events such as the Superbowl and the Los Angeles Marathon for further brand recognition. Shadow 5000 Trainer Modern Saucony releases remain as innovative as ever without derivating from the prestigious history of the brand and their most popular silhouettes. Both the Shadow 5000 and Jazz models saw their first releases in the 1980s and make use of cushioning technology heavily inspired by that used in the originals, maintaining a key link to the brand's roots.
