Barbour x Flower Mountain

4th September 2024 by B.Burrows

The beginning of a new season sees us welcome a collaboration collection from two of our favourite outdoor brands that both have their eyes set on adventure; Barbour and Flower Mountain.

Proudly British and remaining in the North East since their founding in 1894, Barbour have retained a significant level of popularity through consistently reinventing themselves; each season sees classic styles reinvented for the modern day consumer with technical innovations often present throughout each garment. Without losing their reputation for durability and quality along the way, and, perhaps most importantly, their character, the brand has also branched out into more casual and everyday wear through their Steve McQueen and International collections.

It's very easy to draw parallels when it comes to the origins and ethos of Flower Mountain; founded in Japan, 2015 by two friends both with a passion for the outdoors looking to bring their passion to footwear. Each collection released by the brand shows heavy inspiration from the natural world and their heritage, with a cornucopia of vibrant colours and traditional Japanese fabrics sure to feature throughout. All models of trainers released make use of technological innovation to prevent mould formation and promote durability, allowing the wearer to remain comfortable regardless of their conditions.

A collaboration between Barbour and Flower Mountain is a perfectly natural step; both are heavily influenced by their passion for the outdoors, for nature and are both keen to promote these to a new audience. The heritage, history and expertise of Barbour blended with the more contemporary, flamboyant styles often seen from Flower Mountain allows both brands to explore design opportunities and new directions for their respective creative visions that may not otherwise have presented themselves were it not for this collection.

The Yamano 3 Trainer featured in this collection is designed with the signature low-profile silhouette, toothed tread and perforated dandelion design that are seen throughout each Flower Mountain collection alongside an instantly recognisable tartan lining from Barbour; a design reflecting the iconic past of the Barbour brand and its durability alongside the modern, forward-thinking approach of Flower Mountain to craft the ideal outdoor shoe.

A wax jacket more heavily influenced by Barbour can also be found in the collection; the Transport. Constructed with all the hallmarks of a timeless Barbour jacket alongside more subtle splashes of colour and detailing, such as the embroidered dandelion to the left sleeve that bring a more youthful appeal to the iconic design.
